Danielonians - An Unexpected Journey to the Top
This is my journey through the lastest Redemption CCG Grand Prix and first ever Unlimited tournament and how I won 1st place.
1ST PLACEREDEMPTION GRAND PRIX
Game 1 - GamerDad80 (Bye he was sick)
Game 2 - Gilbaugh 3-3 (He won die roll and went 1st) - He played his normal Joshua/Greek mix deck and got an insane turn 1 where I think I lost 3 cards from hand to him if I remember correctly. He also had Forces Arise and I got super unlucky and only drew like 1 hero a turn for 5 turns in a row and he was able to Forces Arise Abomb kill it every turn. I think near the end our defenses had both killed off each others offenses and we were both struggling.
Game 3 - mitchrobstew 5-2 (I don't remember who won the die roll but I think I did) - He was playing a Judges/Pale Green deck. I don't remember a ton about this game but I know that his only souls were SoG/TSC. My defense just kept blocking and killing him off and his defense couldn't stop my offense.
Game 4 - CtheTree 5-4 (He won Die roll and went 1st) - This is a game I honestly shouldn't have won. He played a Creation deck and went first and combo'ed into an IJ for 7. I only had 5 evil cards in hand. So I started insanely far behind. I was able to stabilize even though throughout the game I got IJ'ed for 6 or 7 again, although I think I only had 4 or 5 more evil cards in hand. He had another rescue with some hero's where I lost I think 3 more evil cards. The huge turning point for me was a CBN Depraved capture for 9 and I believe I got a great image off outside of battle. Game was super close but I was able to come back and take over.
Game 5 - TOP 4 - Gilbaugh again 5-2 (He won die roll and went 1st) - He didn't get near the combo turn 1 as he did the first time we played and he never drew Forces Arise and I was able to get me offense going super quick this game. I controlled his offensive quite well with my defense and he didn't get a soul outside SoG/TSC.
Game 6 - FINALS - Jeremey Chambers 5-2 (He won die roll and went 1st) - What a wild ride this game was. I just met Jeremy and really talked to him since I've come back and I've learned he is just an extremely talented deck builder and player. I think this game really was able to show the true power of Babylonian's. Not only did I go second, I got Great Mourning'd, Mourn and Weep'd, Confusion'd discarding my Second Coming, Plotted, Falling Away'd and I was still able to kill his entire offense basically. This game was by far the hardest and had me sweating the whole time. You can watch the game by clicking here (https://www.youtube.com/live/UkhP_WVjN4I?si=9AaLoCbT19wmFFWS&t=2546). Special Thanks to Jayden for live streaming and commentating!
Why Babylonian's over Greeks or Persians?
I'm sacrificing Daniel cards on offense with Angel of the Winds, Love Righteousness, and Angelic Guidance as well as sacrificing two spots to two MVP EC's in The Babylonian Merchants (Merchants) and Babylonian Siege Army (BSA). Outside those cards I feel the Daniel cards in crimson are just superior to the other brigades. Overseer CBN even when TFA is gone is quite good, you can pair it with a ton of CBN captures. A play I always push is Belshazzar's 1000 to activate Abomination of Desolation (ABOM) from reserve, to band to Chaldeans to Babylonian Siege Army (or just BSA) is quite strong that can take out a lot at the cost of 0 resources. The Babylonian Officials is quite good against all the proection. Being able to Self Made into a CBN Overseer capture is quite good. Top decking Beseiged and using it 5 times in a battle is quite broken as well. Getting a second chance at a Daniel top card with Idol of Nebbuchadnezzar is very nice as well, hence why I play a low amount of artifacts. I also think Babylonian's are the best defense to recoup if you go second against a Creation combo turn 1 with an Impartial Justice play.
Simply ranking the defenses paired with Daniel specifically, I'd give Babylonians S+ tier, Greeks S- tier and Persians A+ tier. I do think no matter which defense you run though you will still be an S+ tier deck in the meta and better than any other deck. The only other deck I've seen so far I consider to be S+ tier as well is Creation of the World decks. I think if we saw more defensive focused ones that aren't as glass cannon they would be better. I like to bring the phrase "The Best Defense is a good Offense" and I think this applies to Limited as well.
Why did I choose this deck?

Lost Souls (8)
"Hopper"
"Color Guard"
"Covet"
"Darkness"
"Lost Souls - Roots"
"Humble"
"Thorns"
"Wicked"
You'll notice that I don't play the Lost Souls liner in this deck. My theory behind that is doing chump blocks and stuff doesn't matter if I'm able to kill off your entire offense. I also seem to lose the roll a majority of the time and I don't want to deal with an opponent with 2 Lost Souls liner cards from a Covet play. Hopper is self explanatory for soul gen. I don't think it really did much the whole time and I could probably drop it since I'm fine with not getting a soul a turn or two as seen against Jeremy in the finals. You're never a turn behind if you can wipe their board and kill all their heroes. I have to run an OT package for Covet which is going to try to get the opponent's Lost Souls card, and if not it will grab Humble or Wicked depending on board state. Humble and Wicked are pretty self explanatory. Darkness to assure I have a good block turn one. I'm a big fan of Color Guard, I want my Merchants and my defense protected in territory from Authority of Christ plays, Jepthath plays, Stocks plays, etc. Thorns protects from losing an essential soul I need to Wanderer and protects against Prince of the Air plays.
Artifacts/Curses/Fortresses (4)
Idol of Nebuchadnezzar
Magic Charms (TxP)
Self-Made
Storehouse (Promo)
Idol is one of the main reasons I play Babylonian's. Not only is the search good to get Merchants early, but the amount of times even the best players forget the second sentence of the ability and allow me to capture a hero is a lot. Magic Charms to place on either Magician to capture as well as the only scroll card in the deck. I honestly never used it once during a single game and will probably cut it. It's a great card but with the limited EC's to play it on I'd rather have a Daniel card. With Self-Made you can capture a hero you don't need any longer like Angel of the Winds to trigger a CBN capture in Overseer and topdeck it and draw it again with TFA. I've thought about pairing this with the new Raider's Camp and it's still a possibility I might do it. Storehouse is pretty self explanatory, protection and to get enhancements our of reserve. I also like the one over the IR version because sometimes I do want to place an enhancement back in reserve since I get a ton of draw with TFA and Ancient of Days among other cards. With the ability is draw a ton with The Fortelling Angel, you'll notice I play a lot less of these cards than others. I prefer adding power to my defense over these cards because a lot of them are Daniel cards that I can draw with TFA.
Dominants (7)
The Ancient of Days (AoD)
The Second Coming
Son of God
Falling Away (Cloud of Witnesses)
Perplexing Vision
Crowd's Choice
Three Woes
Obviously Son of God, Second Coming, Ancient of Days, Woes are pretty self explanatory. I am 32/51 Daniel cards so my AoD usually hits for at least 5. If I'm not hitting at least 5 on average I'd rather just play a different dominant. There are plenty of Cards that can change the battle both offensively and defensively in this deck so Crowd's Choice to me is a must, I also want to make sure I get to TFA ASAP. Perplexing Vision can be a complete game changer and is a Daniel card. I surprisingly will get Besieged by Babylon as the Daniel card from deck most of the time although it really just depends. Lastly I play Falling Away Cloud of Witnesses which I don't think anyone plays. There are 2 reasons I don't play women's Falling Away. 1.) Guardian of your Souls is in a lot of decks and I don't want a completely dead dominant. 2.) I don't care about being a turn behind because in the mid to late game I normally take over the board and make it extremely hard for my opponent to get a lost soul and I can come back easily. I like Falling Away to do play it pre-battle on my turn and Choose the Blocker with Daniel to setup a side battle into doing some extremely destructive stuff to my opponent's board including Great Image all their heroes among many other plays.
Heroes (11)
The Angel of the Winds
Daniel's Guardian
The Foretelling Angel
Gabriel, Sent by God (TTC)
Michael, the Guardian (TTC)
Abed-nego (Azariah) (PoC)
Daniel, the Treasured (TTC)
Eternal Believers
Meshach (Mishael) (TTC)
Servants of the King (Sky)
Shadrach (Hananiah) (TTC)
Pretty standard Daniel offense. I do play Daniel the Treasured over Apocalyptist because the CBN Protect is just absurdly good. It also keeps my offensive count to 2 brigades instead of 3. TFA is the goat. I want to make sure I get to Ancient of Days early as could be so Angel of the Winds to Eternal Believers. I think Gabriel is pretty essential to get rid of some of the crazy evil enhancements in unlimited. Daniel's Guardian is great if your TFA gets captured and you need to get him back or getting your Daniel back if he gets killed. I love doing Servants banded in at the end to bounce Daniel for an extra layer of protection especially if you are decked out, you can also bounce your EC's (if color guard isn't down as I forgot) or bounce Meshash/Shadrach/Abed-nego in niche scenerios. I don't know why anyone would ever play Abed-nego TTC over the PoC one. For a while I played Shadrach (PoC) but I've been convinced the TTC is far superior. I don't need Negate Neutrals really so I don't play Leaders for the Lord. Interceder is a possibility but I haven't really needed it. Servants by the River (PoC) is pretty good but I don't really need the protection when I have Daniel and Abed-nego.
Good Enhancements (6)
Angelic Guidance (I)
Daniel's Prayer
Faith Unbowed
Given from God
Love Righteousness
Prayer over Power
Getting to TFA asap as well as Eternal Believers to get to AoD is essential so you have your normal tutors to get them. Given from God is quite good in case you miss, Prayer over Power is probably the best enhancement in battle and Faith Unbowed is obviously a staple. Pretty standard enhancements although I'm probably going to switch them around.
Evil Characters (10)
The Babylonian Merchants
The Babylonian Officials
Babylonian Siege Army
Babylonian Wise Men
Belshazzar's 1,000
The Depraved
Nebuchadnezzar (PoC)
The Overseer
Chaldeans (TTC)
Conjurers (PoC)
Obviously Merchants is an MVP in Babylonian's. If only he was a Daniel Evil Character lol... Belshazzar's 1,000 is one of my favorite EC's in the game. Overseer CBN is insanely strong. Officials can underdeck souls and obviously the regardless of protect is quite good. Wise Men being CBN is super powerful. Chaldeans and Conjurers are both underrated as well and they hold Magic Charms. Depraved does his thing. I choose Nebbie because I really love that toss if I have initiative into a battle winner that's basically CBN. Siege Army with Belshazzar's 1,000 is insanely strong. I don't play Ashpenaz because once again I don't need to protect souls if I kill off their entire offense.
Evil Enhancements (5)
Besieged by Babylon
Bound Before the Fire
Nebuchadnezzar's Pride (Roots)
Seized for Servitude
Told to Take
Besieged by Babylon being able to played 5 times in battle with TFA in play is quite insane to wipe out your opponent's territory including a Woes, etc. Bound Before the Fire being CBN with a wicked our or on officials is quite strong against big bands. Nebbie's Pride can be huge against a large protected band on like Nebbie. Seized for the regardless of protect and negate is strong since it's a Daniel card. Told to Take is underrated because it's CBN on Belshazzar's 1,000 and banding to depraved or nebbie or many other combos can be insanely strong and unplayable.
Reserve (10)
Abomination of Desolation (TTC) - Most people play this main deck. With Babylonian's I'm trying to get Belshazzar's 1,000 to grab Idol of Nebbie to get BSA to do the same thing than I can do this the following turn. Although with this heavy of a defense I don't even need to do that as you'll see in my updated deck list.
Scattered - Self explanatory. Grab with Conjurers or Storehouse. Not main deck because not Daniel.
Desecrate the Temple [RR2] - The best addition from Roots 2, I've debated this being main deck but because it's not Daniel I haven't done it.
Great Image (PoC) - Side Battles are my love. Great Image in a side battle really puts the opponent in a tough position.
Head of Gold (TTC) - Amazing because I can capture EC's with it as well.
Grain in a Famine - Used for a double capture outside of battle with an Overseer proc.
Shattered and Scorched (TTC) - I could see this main deck it's quite good I just don't have room in main deck.
Four in the Fire - Using this on a Daniel that did a choose the blocker play until an Servants of the King bounce is usually a free soul CBN.
Brother's Conflict - Side Battles, it's what it's all about!
Cast into Lion's Den - Gotta be able to kill those few protected EC's like Foreign Wives or King of Tyrus.
What do Greeks offer?
I put a ton of reps on a similar version in Limited and am super familiar with the lines of Babylonians and how powerful they truly are. Obviously adding The Foretelling Angel (TFA) makes an already top tier deck S+. It allows me to draw on both my turn and opponent's and making my Daniel Heroes and Evil Characters CBN is just quite insane. I don't see a world where TFA isn't banned again after next Nationals so enjoy it while you can. You'll notice I don't play a lot of the staples most people consider like Falling Away (Women's), Guardian of your Souls, Lost Souls (Limited/Unlimited) and The Deceiver. This deck also keeps a low Prince of the Air and Matthew count. I also went 2nd (just my luck) every game except maybe Mitchrobstew's, I honestly can't remember so that says something also about this deck. Definitely will need to read about my game with Chad (CtheTree) below.
What do Persians offer?
Greeks have the best Depraved by far, which is a huge loss. They also get The Goat with a Horn, The Prince of Greece, Cassander of Macedon, Alexander's Destroyers, Smashed Opponent, Allowed to be Trampled and Forces Arrive. Quite an epic amount of cards but I still prefer Babylonians. You also get Strucked and Scattered (non Daniel) among obviously a bunch of other great non-Daniel stuff, but my focus is mainly Daniel. I'm sure I missed some other stuff as I haven't put a ton of reps on Greeks, only enough to know I like Babylonian's better.
Danielonians - Unlimited 1st Place RGP - Record 5-0-1
The new Prince of Persia is quite good, Lions in the Den and Lions (I like these cards a lot but other support cards aren't Daniel), The Ram with Two Horns, Ahaseureus, the Father, Trusted Politicians, The Guard at the Den, Darius' Satraps, Cast into Lion's Den works for both sides, Overlooked Ordinances (I think is great in Unlimited), Peres, Destruction from Persia, Falsified Claims, No Strength to Stand, etc. You also get Haman, Haman's Plot, Confusion, and you can add some non-Daniel stuff (Deceiver and The Amalkalites Slave) to have a really high sucess rate at a turn 1 confusion which is quite good. Also Brother's Conflict works with both. If only Haman could have existed during the timeline of Daniel lol... I actually may give Persian's another go and drop all the offensive non-daniel tutors so I can play more non-Daniel evil stuff.
My Matchups
I think this list is extremely solid although I would definitely make some changes. Click here to see my current updated list. I changed Hopper lost soul to Kingdom of the Divine, it gives more soul gen and is a Daniel card. I removed Angelic Guidance as I never really used it and found ways to TFA basically every game by just getting to AoD or using Daniel's Prayer. I brought Four in the Fire to main deck as doing Daniel Choose the Blocker is one of the best parts of the deck and you can get some free lost souls by doing several combo's with it. I removed Told to Take, it's great but because I removed Angelic Guidance I'm able to add another non-Daniel card so I added The Wages of Sin which can get Beseiged by Babylon main deck, BSA which is now in reserve since it isn't Daniel and I added Babylonian Soldiers main deck, which Wages can get. Wages can also get Sheol from reserve which I added, Desecrate the Temple and Great Image. I moved Self-Made to reserve because I don't need it normally early game but it can be clutch mid to late game. I'm trying TTC Nebbie as it being CBN seems like it can be quite good and gives a double CBN capture with overseer. I'd consider Remnant in here as well since Officials can reset it as well as the Fool lost soul that no one plays but I think is extremely good. Also the new Raider's Camp with Self-Made combo's quite well. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! Feel free to message me with any questions!
