About Team Genesis

PREFACE
This blog is going to discuss the first official, sponsored team in Redemption CCG. Team Genesis. Let me start by saying we are super thankful for Andy and his wife at Your Turn Games for sponsoring our team. We appreciate everything they do for the community!

PRE-TEAM GENESIS
Around August last year I decided to come back to playing the game. I was pretty heavy into Lorcana. After winning several events in the Central Florida area, I was invited to a sponsored team of players and I quickly joined. But as I was drawing closer to the Lord, the culture around the game and my Christian values simply didn't align so I decided to get out of the game, which left a void in my life for a card game. I had been watching Redemption with Jayden videos on youtube over the years even while not playing. I really liked the fact the game rotated out of scroll cards (coincidentally we are rotating back in lol). I decided to come back. I started with 2 boxes of GoC and 1 II after some research.

At that time I knew I wanted to play purple warriors from just the aesthetic of the warrior cards. Once I got back into the game, I was looking at the winner decks from last years and say jrob's deck. I quickly reached out to him and we became friends and I was constantly asking him about strategies with it. I planned to play purple warriors even if they weren't S tier just because of how awesome they looked and it was right after Benaiah national promo had been released which I bought. I talked to jrob about starting a team. We agreed but over the next couple months with Times to Come releasing I was really drawn to Daniel and Ancient of Days. I didn't think it would happen, but it did. So the team idea kind of faded with me and jrob as he wanted to mainly team up with someone playing purple warriors to make the best deck.

A TEAM IS BORN
I knew I wanted to create a small team of players to share ideas, help each other create the best decks for our play styles, and work on possibly unknown meta defining decks. I also wanted a group of players for the long run. This wasn't a team until Nationals, it was a team created to go way longer than that. A team where everyone has an equal say and there is no hierarchy. A team where someone on the team winning is celebrated just as much as a personal win. Due to the community being small for Redemption, I planned to have around 4 people in total, and wanted to get jerseys to wear at Nationals.

For a while, I was constantly talking Tyler aka Mr. Hiatus. Probably daily about strategy and deck building, etc. Pitched the idea to him of a small team and he said he was down to be apart of it. Also started talking a good bit to Jay aka FloodedRed and pitched the idea to him as well. He DID NOT want to wear a jersey at Nationals though, he only wears a shirt with a pocket or a suit! He agreed to join and we invited Jeremy his brother aka I Am Bread as well. Keeping family together is always important. Jay was convinced to do the jersey later on lol...

On March 11th, 2026 the team of 4 was formed. With Tyler's position as an Elder, it was decided it was best for him not to wear a jersey at Nationals. And just to keep full transparency, although I doubt needed, Tyler shares no information about upcoming sets, gives zero hints on decks that are going to be good, or does anything of that nature.

I really wanted at least one more powerhouse to join the roster at this point. Someone else with a Type 1 Nationals win. So many great players who we could have asked. Didn't think to ask anyone in Fortress Alstad because we assumed they test a lot together and kind of probably have a unofficial "team like" environment/group. There are also probably a bunch of great players I don't talk to on the regular or know yet. But I was beginning a friendship with Tim aka BaboonyTim. I had been watching his videos and knew he had a spectacular mind for the game. His play and National win proved his skill. We could use some insight on 100 carders as well lol. RIP 100 carders in Type 1 soon.

Some ideas were pitched on team names. We wanted to keep it Biblical.

Tyler threw out the idea that since we have several vets that have been around for a long time it would be cool to have a name that represented that.

Team Genesis
We decided on Team Genesis after that. The original book of the Bible which is represented by some players who were around very early in the game. From there we set a day to design out jerseys which ended up being on me and Tim. We had 3 options and agreed on the one seen above which was Tim's design.
